About

Shirley Cove

I was born in Newcastle, England, my parents decided we should cross the ocean, move to Boston, MA. before finally settling in St. Catharines, Ontario, where I spent much of my life. In 1995, after meeting my husband, I made Port Colborne my home — a lakeside community that continues to shape both my life and my work. I’ve been taking photographs for as long as I can remember — starting with a 110 Instamatic, and later choosing a 35mm camera over an electric guitar at fourteen (a decision my tone-deaf self still appreciates). Those early years included dabbling in black-and-white film and building a make-shift dark room in my mom’s laundry room. I worked in a photography studio before college, laying a creative foundation that never left me. After college, I built a 36-year career at Enbridge Gas, where I also met my husband, before retiring in 2024 to fully embrace photography. Today, as a Port Colborne–based pet photographer serving the Niagara  Region, I bring patience, life experience, and a deep appreciation for connection into every session. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me outdoors — off-roading in my Jeep, backcountry camping and canoeing, golfing, or occasionally playing paintball — and spending time with our blended family of children and seven grandchildren. Photography has always been the constant thread, allowing me to slow down, connect, and preserve the moments that matter most with the family and pets we love.

If you’re looking for a pet photographer who understands how fleeting these moments can be and approaches every session with care and intention, I’d love to connect and create something meaningful together.

The Ethical Lens

Ethics are at the core of Shirley Cove Photography. Every shot is taken with respect, compassion, and a deep understanding of the subjects. I believe in capturing not just images, but the true spirit and personality of your pets.

The wellness and safety of everyone is my first priority. To this end I am certified in canine emergency first aid and CPR. Whether we're shooting in the studio or amidst the beauty of the outdoors, I ensure a comfortable and stress-free environment for you and your furry friends. It's not just about getting the perfect shot; it's about creating an experience that is enjoyable for both the pets and their human companions.

Specializing in dog and equine photography, I bring a unique blend of creativity and technical expertise to every session. From studio sessions that highlight the elegance of your pets to outdoor shoots that capture the joy of play and exploration, each photograph tells a story, some of which I write about on the blog.
