A Puppy Named Pickle -

A Corgi Puppy Photography Session in Niagara

There are few things quite as joyful — or as unpredictable — as photographing a puppy.

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Pickle, an eleven-week-old Corgi who has just joined the family of two very excited young owners, Abbey and Boston. While they weren’t able to attend the sessionthis time, it was easy to imagine the energy this little dog brings into their home every day.

Pembroke Welsh Corgis are a remarkable breed. Originally bred in Wales as herding dogs, they may be small in stature but they are full of intelligence, personality, and confidence. Their short legs helped them stay safely below the reach of cattle while working, and their alert expressions and quick minds made them excellent farm companions.

Today, Corgis are best known for their expressive faces, fox-like ears, and their wonderfully bold personalities. Pickle already shows all the signs of growing into exactly that kind of dog.

Photographing puppies in the studio is always an adventure. Unlike older dogs who can settle into a pose for a portrait, puppies approach the world with endless curiosity. Every corner of the room is something to investigate, every sound is worth checking out, and sitting still for very long is simply not high on their list of priorities.

Sessions like this become a bit of a dance — allowing the puppy time to explore while being ready to capture the moments when their personality shines through.

Puppy eyes

Pickle was wonderfully curious, moving from one new discovery to the next with the enthusiasm only a young puppy can have. In between bursts of exploration came those fleeting moments when he paused just long enough to reveal that classic Corgi expression — bright eyes, alert ears, and the unmistakable charm that makes the breed so beloved.

Those small pauses are often where the magic happens in a puppy session.

Puppyhood passes incredibly quickly. The oversized ears and tiny paws that seem so endearing today will soon grow into a confident adult dog, but photographs from these early weeks preserve the beginning of the story.

Pickle is just at the start of his life with Abbey and Boston, and it was a joy to capture a few portraits from this very special stage.

ready set go

Puppy sessions like Pickle’s are a wonderful way to capture the earliest moments of a dog’s life before they grow into their full personality.
